A Little Help From Heaven
Lawrence Watson
Intro-Spoken
The politics of poverty and the culture of hate
Has led to the loss of blue collar jobs and the
Suburbanization excluding the black urban poor
who remain isolated in the ghettos in churches on sunday morning, filled to capacity.
Verse 1
Is this what we call life?
Young children in the night.
Their fragile bodies bleed,
they turn a trick to eat.
They know that something’s wrong,
but they must be strong.
Their daddy has no job
and momma, she’s been long gone.
Chorus
We could use a little help from heaven.
We could use a little help.
We can't fight this battle by ourselves.
We need some shelter from this hell.
We could use a little help from heaven.
We could use a little help.
We can't fight this battle by ourselves.
We need some shelter from this hell.
Verse 2
You see them coast-to-coast,
victims of the American hoax.
You see fathers they have no jobs.
And on a pa day, you know a Motha’s robbed .
And Her husband stressed out and overcome.
He shoots that poor woman with his gun.
Now there’s one more Black man in jail.
and the children work the streets for bail.
Chorus
We could use a little help from heaven.
We could use a little help.
We can't fight this battle by ourselves.
We need some shelter from this hell.
We could use a little help from heaven.
We could use a little help.
We can't fight this battle by ourselves.
We need some shelter from this hell.
We need little help
We need a little help
We need a
Heavenly father we need help
